Cat Sith
Legend has it a large black cat with white spot on the chest haunts the Scottish Highlands. It walks on all fours when humans are around but stand upright when no one is looking.
The Cat Sith (prounced "caught shee" like "banshee" and is translated as "fairy cat") is a creature from Celtic mythology, more common in Scottish folklore with a few occurrences in Irish fable.
It is said that this creature is not to be trusted as its believe it will steal a person's soul before claimed by the gods. It does this by passing over a corpse before burial. Therefor watches called feill fadalach were performed night and day to keep the cat sith away. Methods of distraction devised to keep the cart away from the soul it sought included games of wrestling, riddles, music and tasty dishes of catnip and fish.
But its not all bad for it is also said that on Samhain the "Fairy Cat" will bless a house that leaves out a saucer of milk.
This particular "Fairy Cat" pendant is strung on a long 28" sterling silver chain and features the Cat Sith when no one is watching! On the reverse side, a hollowed out chamber holds a silver thistle offering.
This listing is for one piece; the exact "Fairy Cat" pendant and chain as shown in the first picture. Handcrafted out of sterling silver, it measures approx. 1.5" .65" at widest and longest points including bail. The width of the piece (as the thistle sticks out substantially from the chamber) is approx .5". It has been given a medium-grey patina and then finished with a mix of both brushed and high polish finishes. Strung on the 28" sterling chain as shown above. Weighs .85 ounces.
