The Yule Goat is a Scandinavian and Northern European Yule and Christmas symbol and tradition. Its origin may be Germanic pagan and has existed in many variants during Scandinavian history.
The function of the Yule Goat has differed throughout the ages. From being an invisible spirit who made sure Yule preparations were done right to a rowdy creature demanding gifts. During the 19th century the Yule goat's role shifted towards becoming the giver of gifts, with one of the men of the family dressing up as the goat. Many of the most beautiful artist depictions show the Yule goat alongside Father Christmas and/or his elves.
I don't know about you but I love the thought of a wintery goat wrapped in ribbons and bells helping bring Yuletide cheer and gifts- or being rowdy and demanding them himself!
This Yule Goat is a large pendant, featuring the Yule Goat in his fanciest dress.
Standing tall atop freshly dusted hills, amongst the snowflakes and sapphire berry clusters, this Yule Goat is ready to go door to door as he carries with him a brilliant guiding star.
The main stone he stands on top of is a sparkling druzy I've held on to for years! It is amethyst whose top has been coated in pale blue chalcedony and is freckled with white snowball clusters. It reminds me of rolling hills made of ice, covered in a blanket of freshly falling snowflakes. The perfect winter stone!
The pendant portion measures approximately at 2.75" x 1.75" at tallest and widest points. It weighs almost two ounces! The bank of the stone has been cut out to assist with weight as well as show off some very unique moss-like, Christmas-green formations.
Handcrafted out of fine (.999) and Sterling (.925) silver, is has then been been given a mix of heavy brushing and high polishing. Strung on a 18" sterling silver chain as shown above; this chain is substantial, also heavily oxidized (darkened) and offers patterns that sparkle with the light. The clasp is a traditional lobster clasp that also offers several hoops that offer some wiggle room in the length you choose to wear it at.
As always, stones are ethically sourced and cut.
